I put bells on my pack pack at night and tie it to a tree about 40 feet away so it can not be dragged off but it still moves. If a bear comes into camp, he makes noise at my gear and wakes me up. I make sure I have a direct shot of bear spray if needed. The last thing I want is a bear is poking around my feet and sniffing my pack pack at night. It's just something I do to make me feel better at night. Bears will go for your back pack before they go for you!

The best way to avoid altitude sickness is to go slow. If you add a couple of days to your trip going to Base Camp you should completely avoid it.
